Résumé : La Constitution, norme fondamentale de l’État, est toujours porteuse d’une certaine idéologie politique traduisant en profondeur, les préoccupations existentielles fondamentales d’un peuple à un moment donné de son histoire politique. Dès lors, l’établissement de la Constitution d’un État est donc toujours guidé par une certaine philosophie politique qui constitue le substrat idéologique de l’ordre dirigeant. Le Cameroun unifié ne saurait guère faire exception à cette implacable réalité. Ainsi, la présente contribution vise à s’interroger sur la place de l’idéologie de l’unité nationale dans l’activité constituante des gouvernants depuis l’unification du pays en 1972. À l’analyse et à la lumière de la pratique, il ressort que cette idée constitue une donnée essentielle et inaltérable de l’activité constituante des dirigeants et ce, en dépit de leur adhésion aux valeurs libérales dès le début la décennie 1990.

Summary: The Constitution, fundamental norm of the State, is always the bearer of a certain political ideology translating in depth, the fundamental existential concerns of a people at a given moment in its political history. Thus, the establishment of the formal Constitution of a State is therefore always guided by a political philosophy which constitutes the ideological substrate of the ruling order. A unified Cameroon can hardly be an exception to this implacable reality. Therefore, this contribution aims to question the place of the ideology of national unity in the constituent activity of the rulers since the unification of the country in 1972. In the analysis and in the light of the experience, this idea retains a significant place in the constituent activity of the leaders, despite their adherence to the values of liberal ideology at the beginning of the 1990 decade.
