Résumé :
Le Cameroun cherche à établir un cadre de contrôle efficace des produits génétiquement modifiés (PGM) pour garantir la sécurité alimentaire tout en préservant la santé publique et l’environnement. Malheureusement, leur régulation souffre d’un sérieux dysfonctionnement entraînant une certaine inefficacité due en grande partie à la diversité des administrations impliquées, ce qui conduit à une fragmentation des responsabilités. En outre, les infrastructures, les ressources humaines et financières sont insuffisantes pour garantir un contrôle efficace. Il est impératif de développer des mécanismes de collaboration entre les différentes institutions afin d’unifier les efforts déployés. Investir dans la formation et la sensibilisation des acteurs concernés, tout comme renforcer les capacités techniques des organismes régulateurs, apparait comme une nécessité. Ainsi, surmonter les défis de régulation permettra au pays de tirer pleinement parti des avancées offertes par les PGM tout en protégeant la population et l’environnement.

Abstract :
This developing country is seeking to establish an effective control framework to guarantee food safety while preserving public health and the environment. Unfortunately, their regulation suffers from serious dysfunction, leading to a degree of inefficiency. This inefficiency is largely due to the diversity of administrations involved, leading to a fragmentation of responsibilities. In addition, infrastructural, human and financial resources are insufficient to guarantee effective control. It is thus imperative to develop mechanisms for collaboration between the various institutions in order to unify the efforts deployed. Investing in training and raising awareness or sensitization for the actors involved, as well as strengthening the technical capabilities of the regulatory bodies, appears therefore to be a necessity. In this way, overcoming the challenges of regulation will enable the country to take full advantage of the advances offered by GMPs while protecting the public and the environment.
